Jack Catterall described Josh Taylor as ‘the man with zero class’ after the undisputed junior welterweight champion mocked his former opponent.
Taylor was, many thought, lucky to emerge with a win when he defended his four belts against Catterall earlier in the year.
The Scot maintained after the fight that he was the clear winner in his eyes, but also said he would move up to 147lbs, likely ending Catterall’s chances of a straight rematch to win any belts at 140lbs.
After the defeat, Catterall dropped to third in the WBO rankings, moving Liam Paro up to one and Teofimo Lopez up to two. That makes the latter two fighters likely to fight it out for the vacant belt once Taylor’s move up is confirmed.
Following that news, Taylor said someone should, ‘phone the police,’ which appears to mock reports that the judging decision had been referred to the police for investigation - which is a move not linked to Catterall or anyone in his camp. The matter was sent to the police by Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Speaker of the House of Commons and a Labour MP.
In response, Catterall said on Twitter that Taylor was, ‘the man with zero class,’ with the current champion known for his spiky pre-match attitude.
