Jaime Munguia has put forward a rough timescale for a fight with David Benavidez.

Both fighters have been linked with other opponents, including Edgar Berlanga and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, but for now there is nothing confirmed on the horizon.

Munguia and Benavidez have both held world championships in the past, and the latter is the WBC interim super middleweight champion.

While Canelo looks set to fight Jermall Charlo, that means that other fighters at the weight will need to stay busy and keep in form for any title fight that could come their way.

Speaking to El Clinch, Munguia predicted that a Benavidez fight is one for 2024.

“I think it’s more likely to take place next year,” he said, referring to a mooted fight between Benavidez and David Morrell later this year. "[He] has commitments this year.

“I plan to fight again at 168 in November and then we should [both] be ready for the fight next year.”

He added: “I don’t there is a need for me to [stay] in the 160-pound division. I think we’re good at 168.”
