Jaime Munguia has plenty of options for his next bout after thrashing Kamil Szeremeta nearly two weeks ago.
Munguia is the No. 1-ranked contender for WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo and WBO titlist Demetrius Andrade. But neither beltholder appears to be on Munguia's radar for his next tilt.
According to the 24-year-old, the person he'd step into the ring against next is Gabe Rosado, who notched perhaps the knockout of the first half of 2021, with a one-hitter quitter over rising prospect Bektemir Melikuziev.
"I think that a fight with Rosado can take place in September or October... but that does not depend on me," Munguia told The Sports Journal (h/t BoxingScene.com). "It will be a matter for the promoters to sort out."
After successfully defending his WBO junior middleweight title on five occasions, Munguia (37-0, 30 KOs) moved up 160 pounds in January 2020. He hasn't missed a beat, going 3-0 with all of them via stoppage. While the focus is capturing middleweight gold in the near future, Munguia has his sights higher before he hangs up the gloves and be like his Hall of Fame trainer, Erik Morales, who captured world titles in four different weight classes.
“The objective we have at this moment is to be crowned at middleweight; then more [titles] in the future," Munguia said. "I think that my body gives me the ability to reach those weights [super middle and light heavy], but that would be later; meanwhile, all of my batteries are focused on being champion at 160 pounds."
