Jaime Munguia has scary power.
The undefeated 24-year-old blasted Tureano Johnson with a right uppercut in the sixth round of their fight Friday night, and upon impact Johnson's lip was instantly obliterated. The nasty gash triggered a doctor's stoppage following the round, giving Munguia the victory by knockout.
After improving to 36-0 with 29 KOs, Munguia proceeded to call out any middleweight world champions for a title shot.
"I want any of the 160-pound champs," Munguia said in Spanish live on DAZN at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. "Any (of them) would be great for me."
Johnson made it clear from the opening ball that he was going to try to bully Munguia and sully up the fight; however, just as a short right hand inside became a weapon for Johnson, Munguia quickly realized that he could land a right uppercut of his own in cramped quarters.
Both fighters used their weapon of choice throughout, with Munguia winning that war of attrition in the sixth, when he made enough room to unleash the hellacious uppercut that detonated Johnson's lip and instantly split it. Johnson's corner called for a head-butt, but replays showed that Munguia's scintillating punch did all the damage.
A ringside doctor checked on Johnson and decided to stop the fight. Munguia picked up another knockout and sent a message to the middleweight division.
