At Tuesday's introductory press conference to announce their Aug. 6 contest, Paul offered multiple bets starting with a $500,000 wager on who would win. Each and every time, Rahman declined the overtures.
“Let’s make a bet right now,” Paul began.
“I’m not about to bet no money. I don’t bet money,” Rahman replied.
“Broke ass – let’s bet this: When I beat you, you have to change your Instagram name to ‘I let my dad down,’” Paul said.
“Jake — I’m not entertaining you,” Rahman Jr. said. “Focus on Aug. 6. This ain’t about no bet. This is about you.
“What are you going to change [your Instagram name] to?” Rahman asked Paul.
“You pick. I don’t give a f—,” Paul said.
“I don’t have time to be playing with you,” Rahman Jr. said. “We ain’t going to be playing on Aug. 6.”
Paul (5-0, 4 KOs) returns for 2022 after fighting three times in 2021. He knocked out Ben Askren in the first round in April 2021, bested Tyron Woodley by split decision last August, and then knocked out Woodley, who replaced Tommy Fury on less than two weeks notice, in one of the most scintillating KOs of the year. Now, he is taking on his toughest test to date.
Rahman (12-1, 6 KOs) is the son of former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman. The 31-year-old won his first 12 fights until being stopped in his last bout against James McKenzie Morrison in April. Rahman was ahead in the fight until being finished in the fifth round.
