The YouTube celebrity was going at it on social media this weekend.

Jake Paul goaded Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez by telling him he would ‘eat him alive’.

Canelo is on course to challenge to be the undisputed super middleweight champion, has won belts across divisions, and is regarded as the best, or close to, pound-for-pound fighter in boxing right now. He is also mentioned as a candidate to be considered the greatest Mexican pugilist of all time. Paul has fought three times, twice against YouTube celebrities and then against a retired UFC grappler.

Nevertheless, both of them are commercially successful names, and while Paul would presumably entertain a profitable bout between the pair of him, Canelo will probably never have to consider anything but credible fights over the course of his career.

Believed to be in reference to Floyd Mayweather’s relatively tame efforts against Jake’s brother Logan Paul, Canelo tweeted a facepalm image on Sunday evening.

Jake Paul replied: "You can't sell pay-per-views. I would eat you alive."

The younger Paul brother has been linked with a follow-up fight against Mayweather, but is currently preparing for his August 28 bout against Tyron Woodley, a former UFC champion.
