Jaron Ennis believes he needs to be high up in the governing bodies’ rankings in order to earn a title shot.
Ennis has 29 fights and 27 knockouts to his name, and next year he will take on Karen Chukhadzhian for his 30th bout.
That offers up the chance for the unbeaten 25-year-old American to become IBF interim champion, which could then earn him a shot at the full title.
The current IBF belt holder at 147 lbs is Errol Spence Jr., who could feasibly be in the market for a tune-up fight, or accept a mandatory challenge in the run-up to a later bout with WBO champion, Terence Crawford.
Spence holds the remaining three belts and many had thought the pair would meet at the end of 2022, but Crawford instead plumped for a big-money fight against David Avanesyan, which he won comfortably.
Ennis was asked what he needed to do in order to get a title fight.
“I feel like being up in the rankings high enough,” he said, reported BoxingScene.com.
“Maybe talking a little more but I don’t do the talking, I’m all bite. I don’t gotta bark. I do my shouting in the ring.”
