Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez’s trainer believes that his fighter is not a runaway favourite against Juan Francisco Estrada.
34-year-old Estrada has almost 50 professional fights to his name and is a two-time world champion, and on June 29 - live on DAZN - he puts his WBC super bantamweight title on the line against Rodriguez.
Rodriguez is the bookies’ favourites but his trainer, Robert Garcia, believes the two contenders are better matched than the odds suggested.
“It’s a big fight for the smaller weight classes. It should be a close and competitive fight,” Garcia told BoxingScene.
“Bam is like my son. He’s been training with me since he was 10 years old. Our relationship is special, especially with the special talent that he has. The chances that he’s getting make it even more exciting.”
