Lauren Price becomes Wales' first female boxing champion.

Jessica McCaskill looked to defend her WBA welterweight title against Lauren Price in Cardiff, Wales on Saturday.

But Price dominated McCaskill across seven rounds before the fight was stopped two seconds into the eighth round. In the fifth round, the women clashed heads and McCaskill's eye began to swell. Finally, in the eighth, it had obstructed her view too much and the doctor deemed McCaskill unable to continue.

"The atmosphere," Price said after winning and listening to the crowd sing for her. "Credit to my opponent, she's a credit to women's boxing and the sport in general."

With the win, Price becomes the first women's Welsh boxing champion.

The former champ was looking to rebound from a two-fight winless streak, having lost at 140 pounds to Chantelle Cameron in 2022 and suffered a controversial draw against Sandy Ryan in a welterweight unification bout. She has now dropped three in a row.

Price was fighting at home for her biggest professional test to date versus the highly talented McCaskill. Price is no stranger to pressure though having won gold for Team Great Britain at the Tokyo Olympics.

She is now the new champion.

"I want to create a legacy," she said. "This is just the start."
