Jessie Vargas is making plans for a return to boxing after a year away due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Jessie Vargas wants to get back to winning ways after fighting just once in 2020. The fighter was last in the ring in February 2020 when he lost on a unanimous points decision to Mikey Garcia.

Vargas used the suspension of boxing and its limited return under coronavirus restrictions to take the rest of the year off from competition.

Speaking to BoxingScene.com, Vargas explained his decision.

“With the pandemic and lockdown I decided to just sit back and enjoy time with my family,” Vargas said.

Garcia wants to get back to the 154lb weight class as he aims to win a world title in his third division.

“I am really looking forward to performing superbly in the 154 pound division. There are a few names out there that I am interested in and the goal is to become a three-division champion,” Vargas explained.

The 31-year-old American is planning to get back into the ring in the first three months of the new year.
