John Ryder expects Canelo Alvarez rematch later this year at Premier League stadiumDAZN

John Ryder is already looking forward to a second meeting with Canelo Alvarez despite being a significant underdog for their showdown next month.

With every Canelo fight, a ton of speculation is centred on who the Mexican icon will face next, but Ryder is so confident of securing victory on May 6th that he thinks he’ll lure Canelo over to Britain for a rematch.

Canelo endured a mixed 2022 after starting the year with his first loss since 2013 when he was beaten on points by Dmitry Bivol.

A second fight was discussed, but Canelo returned to 168lbs and defend his undisputed title against Gennadiy Golovkin. He returns for his first outing of 2023 and he’s facing an upbeat opponent.

“I’ve seen him mention Bivol and (David) Benavidez,” said Ryder when speaking to Boxing Scene. “Don’t sleep on me. The only rematch you’re having in September is with me at the Emirates [Stadium].”

“I think I’m a year older than him but he’s got a lot of miles on the clock. Last year was a tough year for him. He only had one win and had one loss. It wasn’t a big win he had with Golovkin, and of course he lost to Bivol.”
