Jose Ramirez: Nothing to see in Josh Taylor's win over KhongsongDAZN

Jose Ramirez rekindled his rivalry with Josh Taylor after the Scottish boxer’s fight on Saturday.

Taylor faced off in a mandatory title defence against the IBF Asian and Pan Pacific title holder Apinun Khongsong. Taylor retained his IBF, WBA and Ring Magazine titles.

The 25-year-old Thai fighter was quickly blown away by Taylor in a first-round defeat ended by a knockout. The bout came a month after Ramirez successfully defended his own belts against Viktor Postol.

Speaking to boxingscene.com, Ramirez claimed not to have watched the fight and dismissed the result out of hand.

“I didn’t see the fight but apparently there was nothing to see,” Ramirez said.

However, Ramirez’s manager Rick Mirigian was not short of criticism.

“This was the worst fight I have seen,” he claimed.

“If Carl Moretti landed that left, or even Bob Arum, the same thing would have took place.

“I hope he has that false confidence going into the next fight.”

Taylor and Ramirez are both keen to make a fight, but first Ramirez is likely to need to fight Jack Catterall, the current WBO mandatory challenger. He may ultimately decide to vacate the belt to faciliate his desired fight.

WBC holder Ramirez, for his part, is ready to start negotiations.

“I’m waiting to start negotiations between camps and willing to do my part to make the fight happen next,” said Ramirez.
