Former world champion Joseph Parker is set for a "great fight" on home soil in October, according to promoter Eddie Hearn.

Former WBO world heavyweight champion Joseph Parker is set for action in his native New Zealand for the first time in almost two years.

Parker (27-2, 21 KOs) defeated Alexander Flores in Christchurch back in December 2018, and promoter Eddie Hearn is confident his homecoming will find a date in October.

"Parker is due to fight in New Zealand, which is a project we're working on," Hearn has told IFL TV.

"It will be our first show in New Zealand and we're planning a great fight for him. Looks like it'll be in October. It'll be a major coup to get this over the line."

Parker, who lost his world title to Anthony Joshua in March 2018 before taking his only other professional defeat against Dillian Whyte later that year, has only fought twice since overcoming Flores.

The 28-year-old stopped Alex Leapai in Providence, Rhode Island, in June 2019 before making it three wins on the bounce by halting Shawndell Winters in Frisco, Texas, back in March.

Three names linked with Parker’s next move are former WBA champ Lucas Browne, Dempsey McKean and the most intriguing of the trio, Parker’s domestic rival and unbeaten contender Junior Fa.
