The new undisputed champion is earning praise from around the world of boxing

Josh Taylor drew praise from erstwhile world champions Andre Ward, Shawn Porter and Shakur Stevenson after becoming undisputed super lightweight champion on Saturday night.

Las Vegas saw the 30-year-old Scot defeat his 28-year-old American rival Jose Ramirez by unanimous decision, after twice dropping his opponent.

Taylor is now indisputably the pre-eminent boxer in his division and could now move up a weight class to face Terence Crawford, or may wait for Teofimo Lopez to add five pounds to face him in a huge clash.

Crawford himself welcomed the win, and claimed that he had predicted the result.

Other famous names from the world of boxing then gave him more effusive credit, perhaps because they are safe in the knowledge they do not have to risk facing him.

Andre Ward, recently put forward as one of the few fighters who could have troubled Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, said:  “Congrats @joshtaylorboxer #Earned.”

Shawn Porter, a two-time welterweight champion, tweeted: “And @JoshTaylorBoxer is a painter with that left hand.”
