Josh Taylor's promoter Bob Arum wasn't impressed with the Scotsman's performance against Jack Catterall last weekend.

The two British super lighweights went head-to-head for the undisputed title last weekend in Glasgow and it was Taylor who came out on top via a controversial split decision.

Speaking to BoxingScene, Arum expressed his disappointment in Taylor's first undisputed super-lightweight title defence.

"He was terrible,” Arum said.

“It’s the worst I’ve seen him perform, and I’ve watched most of his fights over the last couple of years. He certainly didn’t look like the guy who beat Ramirez.”

But while the majority of fans and experts believed Catterall was the deserved winner, Arum had Taylor winning the fight on his scorecard.

"I don’t think it was a very good fight,” Arum claimed.

“I don’t know what people are talking about. I had Taylor winning by maybe a couple points.”

The veteran promoter also isn't convinced a move up to welterweight could be on the cards for Taylor who has his sights set on a potential clash with the WBO champion Terence Crawford.

"I talked to him [Monday]. We’re gonna evaluate him with a nutritionist and determine what he should do.

"So, again, emotionally he said [he must move up]. And he said he had a nutritionist for this fight, but who knows how qualified the nutritionist was? And we’ll get into that in the weeks ahead.”
