Joshua Buatsi teases fight against British world title challenger in 2024

Joshua Buatsi teases fight against British world title challenger in 2024DAZN
The British light heavyweight division is stacked.

Britain is a hotbed when it comes to the light heavyweight division.

From Callum Smith to Joshua Buatsi, there are a host of names who have the potential to become a world champion at 175lbs, and two of Britain's best go head-to-head this weekend.

Taking place at the OVO Arena Wembley, Buatsi takes on his fellow countryman Dan Azeez in a huge domestic showdown. Not only are both of their unbeaten records going to be on the line, but the winner will also be in line for a shot at WBC world light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

However, with Bivol potentially facing Artur Beterbiev for the undisputed title at light heavyweight, therefore the winner will likely have to wait for their world title bid.

That does not mean either man should stop facing domestic rivals at light heavyweight and one name Buatsi has expressed an interest in facing is Anthony Yarde.

A fight between Buatsi and Yarde is one which excites British boxing fans and the former Olympian is hopeful a fight with the two-time world title challenger can be made sooner rather than later.

"Hopefully that will be one for 2024 as well," Buatsi said on the prospect of facing Yarde when speaking to Sky Sports

"Especially [to] get it on sooner rather than later.

"Of course, if someone has world titles at stake, or an opportunity to fight for one, then cool, I get it. If not, I do think, yeah, we can get in the mix and mix it up."
