After his unanimous decision win on Saturday over Argi Cortes, it was revealed that Juan Francisco would put his Ring Magazine 115-pound title on the line as he meets Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez for the third time on Saturday, Dec. 3. A site wasn't announced on the broadcast.
After the first fight, Gonzalez went on to win 12 consecutive contests to become the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport and had a 46-0 record. Then Gonzalez ran into Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, who beat 'Chocolatito' in back-to-back fights. Gonzalez was being written off and considered past his peak. Nevertheless, the native of Nicaragua dug deep down and won four straight contests, which included winning the WBA (super) super flyweight belt from Kal Yafai via ninth-round TKO in February 2019. However, the win streak came to a screeching halt when he lost a narrow split decision in the Estrada rematch in one of the best fights of 2021. Over 2,500 punches (a division record) were thrown in the fight, which most felt should have gone Gonzalez's way.
They were scheduled to meet in March, but Estrada was forced out of the fight. Gonzalez remained on the card. He battered and dominated WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez to win back-to-back fights heading into the trilogy.
After losing the first fight to Gonzalez, Estrada's won 17 of 18 fights, with the only setback coming to Sor Rungvisai via majority decision in February 2018. Two fights later, Estrada exacted revenge and beat Sor Rungvisai in April 2019 to win the WBC title. Estrada fought on the same card as Gonzalez, but in the headlining position, and defeated Carlos Cuadras via 11th-round TKO to defend the belt for the second time. The win on Saturday extended Estrada's winning streak to seven.
