Promoter Kalle Sauerland believes that Britain's Chris Eubank Jr should be facing Saul "Canelo" Alvarez instead of Jaime Munguia.
After weeks of speculation, it was finally revealed that Alvarez will defend all four of his world super middleweight titles against his fellow countryman on May 4 in Las Vegas.
Despite becoming a major name in British boxing, Eubank Jr is yet to challenge for a world title and time is running out if he is to secure the opportunity.
Speaking to Boxing Scene, Sauerland explained why a Eubank Jr fight would have been perfect for Alvarez.
“Absolutely, Eubank, if you look at it in terms of a fight, would be a great opponent for Canelo,” Sauerland said.
“But I also think it’s a commercially very interesting fight for Canelo, because Canelo would unlock the UK market, obviously, with an opponent like Eubank.
“When we saw the rumour, we immediately contacted the team, but I believe they were already far down the road with Munguia at the time, and this was maybe a name mentioned in negotiations.”
If Eubank Jr did step into the ring with Alvarez, it would be a difficult task with the Mexican defeating eight British opponents during his storied career.
