The two will finally have their rematch this week, so refresh yourself on how their original bout came to be.

Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will resume their rivalry this week when the pair meet in a hotly anticipated rematch at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

The pair will co-headline a massive fight night topped by Jake Paul and Mike Tyson's much-hyped encounter, with the Irishwoman's undisputed lightweight title on the line.

That will carry echoes of their first encounter, when the duo met at Madison Square Garden in 2022 for the former's WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO crowns.

Ahead of their rematch, DAZN takes a look back at what happened the first time around between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

Taylor vs. Serrano 2: What happened in the first fight?

Widely regarded as two of the pre-eminent fighters of their generation, a match between Taylor and Serrano was in the planning stages for several years prior to its date.

The former, a gold medalist at the London 2012 Olympic Games, had pivoted from women's football to the ring in her younger years, having played for the Republic of Ireland.

By the time she topped the podium, Serrano was already a four-division world champion in boxing, and would go on to conquer another three to become a seven-weight legend.

An original date in May 2020 at Manchester Arena was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and both fighters would continue to build their records over the following two years.

Eventually however, it was confirmed in January 2022 they would become the first female boxers to headline MSG on April 30 that year, finally setting up their encounter.

There had been concerns that the event could not live up to the hype over the weeks ahead, as Taylor prepared to pit her 20-0 record against Serrano's 42-1-1 status.

In the end however, fans need not have worried. The pair delivered an instant classic of an encounter, which later won Fight of the Year from Sports Illustrated.

Serrano showed her aggressive streak early on, while Taylor used her speed to launch a slew of impressive counters, before she was hit with a powerful blow in the fifth round.

Remarkably, the Irishwoman kept her feet and avoided the canvas, before rallying in the final three rounds to bloody her opponent and just edge the contest by split decision.

A rematch seemed an immediate possibility in the aftermath, but a date for May 2023 had to be postponed after Serrano suffered an injury against Erika Cruz at featherweight.

Eventually, the two were confirmed to feature on the bill at Paul's stadium bout with former heavyweight champion Tyson - and for many boxing fans, will be the main attraction.
