Katie Taylor, Claressa Shields and Amanda Serrano: Who is the GWOAT?

Katie Taylor, Claressa Shields and Amanda Serrano: Who is the GWOAT?DAZN

Sergio Mora believes that neither Amanda Serrano nor Claressa Shields can beat Katie Taylor as the greatest woman boxer of all time.

Serrano and Taylor fought in what is perhaps the greatest women’s fight of all time last year, when the Irish fighter retained all four of her lightweight belts.

Shields, meanwhile, defeated Savannah Marshall after years of baiting between the pair of them due to Marshall’s victory over the American in the amateurs.

Serrano fights Erika Cruz on Saturday, live on DAZN, and speaking on JABS, Mora said that he thinks Taylor is ahead of the pair in the overall rankings.

“This is a tough one,” he began. “I’m going to say no, I don’t think she becomes GWOAT, I’m still going to say Katie Taylor holds that, she’s pound-for-pound. Claressa Shields, you can make a case for her. Amanda Serrano, she’s great but Serrano would have become the GWOAT if she had beaten Katie Taylor on the biggest stage convincingly.

“That would have made her GWOAT. RIght now I’ve got to give it to Katie Taylor because at this era, at this stage Taylor is not only pound-for-pound right now, because she beat Amanda Serrano and Jessica McCaskill, who ended up becoming undisputed at welterweight. That fight has aged extremely well. You have to have that rival, that’s something that Claressa Shields has been lacking.

“Amanda Serrano is not far from being the GWOAT, neither is Claressa Shields, but you need that adversary, you need that beef. Yeah, Shields had Savannah Marshall, but that’s not many more because of the weight division. Everytime you go higher in weight, there’s fewer names of higher recognition.”
