Chantelle Cameron ruined Katie Taylor’s homecoming as she defeated the Irish superstar by majority decision in Dublin.
The bout lived up to the huge expectation as both fighters left everything in the ring, but after ten close rounds, Cameron was a worthy winner as she retained her undisputed title at 140lbs.
Cameron made a solid start to the bout as she bullied Taylor and landed several impressive shots that immediately got Taylor’s attention.
Taylor responded well in the second session, but Cameron began to take over and it appeared she held a decent lead as the fight reached the halfway mark inside a rowdy 3Arena.
Taylor responded brilliantly in the championship rounds and as the fight approached the end, Taylor fought like a fighter who knew she needed the final sessions.
She delivered in those rounds, but it wasn’t enough as two judges scored 96-94 to Cameron.
In the fight’s immediate aftermath, Eddie Hearn, the promoter of both fighters, declared that there would be a rematch in Autumn, once again in Dublin.
