Laila Ali: 'Eddie Hearn has helped take women's boxing to the next level'DAZN
Laila Ali spoke about the current state of women's boxing on The DAZN Boxing Show.

All eyes will be on women's boxing on Saturday when Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano headline Madison Square Garden on Saturday night live on DAZN

But while this is a fight which has two of the best female fighters going head-to-head in a historic moment for the sport, there is still a lot that can be done to improve women's professional boxing.

In the eyes of former world champion Laila Ali, there needs to be more female fighters that fans want to see instead of the small number of standout names which operate in the sport right now.

"I think the same thing that’s always been missing is that you’ve got to have enough women that the fans are interested in that can make compelling matchups," Ali said on The DAZN Boxing Show

"That was a problem with my career, I could only go so far because if I keep getting in there fighting girls that people feel are going to be easy fights, people don’t always want to see that.

"Real pure boxing fans they want to see me fight an Ann Wolfe, they want to see me in a little bit of danger.

"They want to see two fighters that you know what this one is bringing, you know what the other one is bringing.

"We can look at Amanda Serrano, we can look at Katie Taylor, we know what their skillsets are, we know what their weaknesses are, and we can bet on the fight."

Ali also had some praise for co-promoter Eddie Hearn who has played a massive part in growing the women's side of the sport.

"You also need promoters like an Eddie Hearn who I commend for being someone who has intentionally promoted women and decided he was going to be that promoter who was going to help take women’s boxing to the next level."
