Lauren Price into Olympic final as she closes in on gold medalDAZN
Lauren Price has an opportunity to win Olympic gold on Sunday.

Lauren Price continued Great Britain’s outstanding run at the Tokyo Olympics as she made it through to the 75kgs final. Price was pushed hard by Nouchka Fontijn of the Netherlands but she was judged to have done enough as she took the contest via split decision.

Price will now join Galal Yafai in this weekend’s final stages as Team GB aim to collect two gold medals following the silver gongs already collected by Pat McCormack and Ben Whittaker. The Welsh fighter will face China’s Li Qian on Sunday as she closes in on amateur boxing’s biggest prize.

Following a tight opening session against Fontijn, disaster struck for Price in round two when she was deducting a point for repeatedly holding her opponent. That gave her a mountain to climb but despite the size of the task in front of her, Price was willing to take it on.

A brilliant third stanza from Price saw her display a ruthless relentlessness as she produced arguably the round of her career. Finding the necessary shots to flip the scores back in her favour, Price didn’t hold back as she repeatedly found the target. Her brilliant performance in the fight’s closing round ensured she took the verdict via split decision.
