Shane McGuigan would relish the opportunity to work the corner for Anthony Joshua as the former heavyweight champion plots his in-ring return.
Joshua’s next move regarding his team is still unknown and it’s not clear whether the team of Robert Garcia and Angel Fernandez will once again handle preparations like they did for his recent rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.
Joshua is likely to return to the ring in the early stages of 2023 with Dillian Whyte and Filip Hrgovic two fighters linked to be the opponent.
Joshua made huge changes to his staff following the first loss to Usyk in 2021, and if he does the same this time around then McGuigan would welcome the chance to work with the 2012 Olympic gold medallist.
“It’s Anthony Joshua, of course, I would fancy it,” said McGuigan when asked about the possibility by Seconds Out.
"Athletic guy, he’s got things to learn, and he needs to get the belief back in himself. Genuine belief back in himself, a couple of good victories and then roll the dice again.
“I believe I could get a lot of good work in with AJ. I think as long as he gets back to believing what the right approach is for him then he’ll get back to doing great things again.”
