Leigh Wood plans homecoming fight against former world championDAZN

Leigh Wood hopes to fight Josh Warrington at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground after his clash with Mauricio Lara.

The 34-year-old Briton takes on his Mexican challenger on February 18 live on DAZN (exc. Aus & NZ) in a WBA featherweight title defence.

Wood has dreams of fighting at his beloved football club’s ground and the two-time IBF champion Warrington would likely bring with him plenty of his own supporters.

Warrington lost last December to Luis Alberto Lopez by unanimous decision, but that has not dimmed the current champion’s enthusiasm for an all-British match-up.

"Let's just see what happens but Warrington can help me achieve my dream of headlining at the City Ground," Wood told the BBC.

"The fight with Warrington is still a massive fight and there's a rivalry between Nottingham and Leeds. He's done a lot in boxing."

Wood last fought Michael Conlan to record one of 2022’s most dramatic knockouts which sent his opponent out of the ring.

Conlan could be in line to take on new IBF champion Lopez with reports suggesting a unification clash could be on the cards down the line.
