History was set to be made on February 17 when Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk would meet for the undisputed heavyweight title with the winner becoming the first fighter to hold all four belts in the heavyweight division.
Anticipation was building following the release of another memorable promotional video, however, this build-up has come to an abrupt halt following the news that this historic contest would be postponed.
This was due to a deep cut suffered by Fury in training camp which will now take a number of months to heal.
As expected, everyone associated with the world of boxing has given their thoughts on the shock injury including Lennox Lewis who was also an undisputed champion, albeit during the three-belt era.
Lewis took to X on Friday night to give his reaction to the Fury injury news and also gave a prediction as to how long it will take before the WBC world heavyweight champion can return to the ring.
“Tough break for Tyson Fury. This cut is in same area as one he got in Wallin fight. He’s probably gonna need about 6 stitches and 3 months to heal. The saga continues…” Lewis wrote.
While there was some hope that Usyk would go ahead and fight a new opponent in Riyadh, it has since been announced that the card will no longer go ahead which also featured dangerous cruiserweight Jai Opetaia and IBF world super featherweight Joe Cordina.
