There's a lot at stake for both Luis Nery and Brandon Figueroa tonight. Their huge super-bantamweight unfication fight has the boxing public split but both men are promising to give their all.

An outstanding encounter is expected tonight when Luis Nery and Brandon Figueroa square off in a huge unification fight at super-bantamweight. Nery, defending his WBC crown, will be aiming to take the American’s WBA title in a bout that will provide the victor with a shot at WBO ruler Stephen Fulton later this year.

Last September, the Tijuana fighter was given a stern examination by fellow Mexican, Aaron Alameda, when he had to settle for a points victory in a fight that many expected Nery to dominate. Despite that contest missing the usual fireworks expected in a Nery event, the 26-year-old is expecting a high level of excitement against Figueroa.

"You won't see anything different in me, you will only see the Luis Nery I was before Eddy Reynoso,” said Nery to DAZN .  “I know I'm facing a good, young and hungry fighter like me. I feel good in this division. The fight with Figueroa will be better, because his style will fit well with mine, much more than [Aaron] Alameda's style.”

For Figueroa, he heads into war with Nery on the back of an impressive stoppage win over Damien Vazquez on the same show that tonight’s opponent was pushed hard by Alameda. Still only 24, the handsome Texan has proven he belongs at world level and he’s excited by the challenge that will be presented by Nery.

"The atmosphere is what makes boxing what it is," said Figueroa. It motivates us to give our best and to be able to go out and see how they support us is a great feeling. This fight is about facing the best we'll see what happens"
