One fighter was targeting Brits.

It’s seven years since Andre Ward last boxed as he exited boxing with a perfect record following a terrific two fight series with Sergey Kovalev.

An Olympic gold medalist in 2004, Ward turned professional shortly afterwards and he was world number one in two weight divisions as he beat several top contenders at super-middleweight and light-heavyweight.

Despite walking away from the sport following his two wins over Kovalev, Ward has now admitted that there were plans to stick around.

As one of the best fighters on the planet when he retired, Ward had multiple options, but it was fights against two British fighters that appealed to him.

"If I'd stayed around it was going to cruiserweight, I was going to target Tony Bellew, I know he would've took the fight,” said Ward when speaking on talkSPORT

"And once I'd felt that at 200lbs and got my feet underneath me, I would've gone after Anthony Joshua. If he would've took it serious, I don't know, but that's who we were gunning for."
