When the fight was first announced, WBA world featherweight champion Leigh Wood was given plenty of plaudits for taking on a dangerous opponent.

Lara had already been involved in two brutal fights with Josh Warrington and therefore had no fear when it came to stepping into enemy territory and spoiling the party.

Going into the fight, both men were expected to come out swinging from the opening bell, but instead it was a chess match for the first few rounds.

While Lara was able to land some hard-hitting shots, Wood utilised his boxing ability and began to build a lead on the judges' scorecards.

As the fight went past the halfway point, Wood looked comfortable against his Mexican foe who in a flash showed why he is one of boxing's bogeymen.

A left hook in the seventh floored Wood and despite meeting the referee's count, Wood's trainer, Ben Davison, threw in the towel to stop the fight.

Lara was then crowned the WBA champion at featherweight and now sets the stage for what should be a thrilling rematch.
