The star will both star in and direct the next film in the series.

Michael B. Jordan will direct the forthcoming and third Creed film.

The Creed series has followed Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed from the Rocky Balboa franchise. The new series of films has also featured performances from original Rocky performer Sylvester Stallone, though there is no confirmation if he will return for this installment.

The film is due to be released on Thanksgiving weekend in November 22, 2022.

Discussing the announcement, Jordan said:  “Directing has always been an aspiration, but the timing had to be right. ‘Creed III’ is that moment — a time in my life where I’ve grown more sure of who I am, holding agency in my own story, maturing personally, growing professionally, and learning from the greats like Ryan Coogler, most recently Denzel Washington, and other top tier directors I respect. All of which sets the table for this moment.

“This franchise and in particular the themes of ‘Creed III’ are deeply personal to me. I look forward to sharing the next chapter of Adonis Creed’s story with the awesome responsibility of being its director and namesake.”

The first Creed film was released in 2015 to earn more than $170 million, with the sequel in 2018 earning more than $214 million. The series has featured real former world champions in the past as characters, including Tony Bellew and Andre Ward.
