Michael Conlan has said he will take some time away from boxing as he deals with a loss to Jordan Gill.
The Irishman fought Gill on Saturday night in Belfast, and he looked to put defeats to Luis Alberto Lopez and Leigh Wood fully behind him in order to build back to another title shot.
However those plans look to be in real danger after Gill came away with a knockout win, and at 32, Conlan may have to consider where his future lies.
He had recently decamped to Miami, Florida, to work with trainer Pedro Diaz and had high hopes of a return to form against Gill.
However, writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, he acknowledged that he would think over his career.
Conlan wrote: “Tonight just wasn’t my night. I’m going to take some time out and be with my family. Congratulations to Jordan Gill who was victorious tonight.
“Belfast, as always thank you from the bottom of my heart for turning out in your numbers again.”
