Mikey Garcia has been inactive since February 2020, but he would love a showdown with Josh Taylor.

Mikey Garcia remains a fighter whose name is constantly is linked to big showdowns. In recent weeks, the four-weight world champion was rumoured to be taking on Manny Pacquiao, but with the latter now taking on Errol Spence Jr. on Aug. 21 in Las Vegas, the search for Garcia’s next opponent continues.

Able to fleet frequently between the weight classes, it’s no surprise that the Californian is consistently mentioned in conversations relating to a top-level fighter’s next move. After watching Josh Taylor get past Jose Ramirez on Saturday night, the Scot, now the premier fighter at 140lbs, is the latest boxer Garcia has identified as a potential opponent.

After clearing out his competition at super-lightweight, Taylor is a fight figure in demand, with WBO welterweight champion Terrence Crawford, three-belt lightweight titlist Teofimo Lopez, and Gervonta Davis all being spoken about as future foes for the undisputed champion. Garcia would relish the opportunity to win back his old crown back after being impressed with Taylor’s win over Ramirez.

“It was a great fight,” said Garcia when speaking to Boxing Social. “Both had success at different stages of the fight. Taylor had the edge with the knockdowns, and that’s what got him the victory.

“I would love the opportunity to get in the ring with Josh. We actually asked about that fight over a year and a half ago. He had other plans, but if the fight was offered right now, I would definitely take that chance.”
