Jaime Munguia feels he did the right things to become eligible to be Saul Canelo Alvarez's opponent in May.
After knocking out the hard-hitting John Ryder in nine rounds, Munguia said he was thrilled to have been able to get his hand raised in such an emphatic manner and to have been able to showcase the new elements he learned under Freddie Roach.
"I want the best, the best for the public. If the best is the world champion we go for it. I would be ready for May. If Canelo says yes I'd be ready," said the 27-year-old fighter, who has an impressive 43-0, 34 KO's record, in a post-fight interview with ESPN.
After the fight, Munguia's main promoter, Fernando Beltran, talked about the real options out there:
"It's not up to us, it's completely up to Canelo. But we would definitely be willing, but if it's not Canelo we would continue with our upward career with either Edgar Berlanga or David Benavidez," he concluded.
