It was evident from the opening bell that Murodjon Akhmadaliev was a cut above Ricardo Espinoza in their WBA interim super bantamweight title fight on Saturday, and the Uzbekistani fighter wasted little time proving his class as he defeated the Mexican to earn his 13th professional victory.
Akhmadaliev was measured in his approach in the first two rounds before delivering a flurry in the third round that overwhelmed Espinoza, registering two knockdowns on his opponent before putting him onto the canvas for the third and final time just seconds before the bell to end the round.
It was a dominant display by the 30-year-old, who once again holds silverware in the super bantamweight division after his three-year run as the WBA (Super) and IBF champion ended in 2023.
Akhmadaliev's win was just one of a number of memorable fights on Saturday's card in Monte Carlo, which also included Leonardo Mosquea defeating Cheavon Clarke and Beatriz Ferreira retaining her IBF women's lightweight title against Licia Boudersa.
