Naoya Inoue moved up in weight and demolished Stephen Fulton to become the new super bantamweight WBC and WBO world champion.

The show-stopping performance also made the 30-year-old Japanese sensation a four-division world champ, who is in position to become clinch back-to-back undisputed crowns later this year, as he already enjoyed undisputed bantamweight glory in 2022.

What is Naoya Inoue's record? 

Naoya Inoue boasts a 25-0 professional record with 22 of those wins coming by way of knockout. 

Championships

In August 2013, Inoue won the Japanese light flyweight belt, then in December 2013 he added the OPBF strap at the same weight. He then won the WBC light flyweight belt against Adrian Hernandez on April 2014.

Inoue then moved onto junior bantamweight where he won the WBO belt in 2014, making numerous defences, then over the course of 2018 and 2019 he won the WBA regular bantamweight belt and the IBF and Ring bantamweight titles, before claiming the WBA super strap.

In June 2022, he defeated Nonito Donaire for the WBC bantamweight title and then added the WBO belt against Paul Butler in December to complete the undisputed bantamweight crown.

In July 2023, Inoue knocked out Stephen Fulton to become the unified super bantamweight WBC and WBO world champion. 

Biggest wins

Inoue beats Donaire in rematch to claim WBC belt; June 7, 2022

Inoue was already unfiied bantamweight champion when he had his second fight with Nonito Donaire, who brought his WBC belt to the table. The pair fought at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan, with Inoue the favourite after winning their 2019 bout.

Inoue needed just two rounds for victory, when he knocked Donaire down in the first, and had him unsteady with a left hook at the start of the second. He then unleashed a barrage of punches to force a stoppage and become Japan's first ever three-belt champion.

Inoue becomes undisputed champion after beating Butler; December 13, 2022

On August 25, the undisputed fight between WBO champion Butler and Inoue was confirmed for December 13 last year. It took place at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo.

Butler was fighting outside the UK for the first time in his career, and Inoue won in the 11th round with a technical knockout as he peppered Butler with body shots.

Inoue snatches unified super bantamweight world championship after defeating Fulton; July 25, 2023

After asserting his jab early, Inoue began piecing together vicious combinations and used them to keep chipping away toward an eventual eighth-round TKO of Fulton to take the 122-pound WBC and WBO world titles in Tokyo, Japan. The victory also made Inoue a four-division world champ.
