Naoya Inoue's latest defence of the undisputed super-bantamweight crown has been postponed until next month following an injury to challenger Sam Goodman.
The Japanese fighter, who holds the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO titles in the division, had been due to fight to keep his crown against the Australian on Christmas Eve.
But now the bout will take place on January 24 next year following a "freak accident" Goodman sustained in sparring, leaving him with a cut above his left eye.
Both men took to social media upon the news to confirm the revised date, with Inoue apologising to fans who had been anticipating the bout at Tokyo's Ariake Arena.
"The title defense [that] was scheduled for December 24th had to be postponed due to an injury Goodman sustained during sparring," he wrote on X.
"I'm sorry to everyone who was looking forward to it. We hope you will come again on the new dates! Let's fight at our best."
Goodman concurred, and told his followers on Instagram: "We move forward. Keep you all posted."
Inoue, a four-division champion and undisputed in two weight classes, completed super-bantamweight with victory over Marlon Tapales on Boxing Day last year.
He has made two successful defences since, with a sixth-round KO over Luis Nery in May and a seventh-round stoppage against TJ Doheny in September.
