New trainers for Derek Chisora and Joseph Parker: Who has made the better decision?Matchroom
Derek Chisora and Joseph Parker collide on May 1 and both fighters will be trained by new coaches. Who will reap the benefits more?

Derek Chisora’s heavyweight clash with Joseph Parker on May 1, a fight that DAZN will screen in multiple regions, will see both fighters enter battle with fresh faces in their corners. Parker’s lacklustre showing against Junior Fa in February saw him add former middleweight champion, Andy Lee, to his team whilst Chisora announced Buddy McGirt as his new coach earlier this week.

Both heavyweight contenders deserve praise for making necessary adjustments to their training camps and it’ll be interesting to see whose gamble pays off when the first bell sounds in a month's time.

Both fighters have been solid campaigners at the business end of the heavyweight division but defeat for either man in their upcoming battle will surely mean the end of any world title aspirations. The changes in the corner for both fighters was a big talking point on the most recent episode of Jabs with Mannix and Mora

“Buddy McGirt knows how to teach an old dog new tricks,” stated Sergio Mora when asked which fighter had made the best appointment. “Derek Chisora is an old veteran and he’s used to war but what Buddy McGirt does is, he takes the war out of his fighters. That’s exactly what Chisora needs is a brain like Buddy McGirt.”

Mannix was in agreement with his colleague. “The two things that Derek Chisora needs going into this fight are a better jab, he is out there basically brawling with opponents, and he needs to be in better condition. He needs to be able to go the full 12 rounds against a fighter with an iron chin like Joseph Parker.”
