Oleksandr Usyk lighter than Anthony Joshua ahead of world heavyweight title rematch

Oleksandr Usyk lighter than Anthony Joshua ahead of world heavyweight title rematchDAZN

Despite assumptions that IBF, WBA and WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk would be considerably heavier for his rematch with Anthony Joshua tomorrow night, the Ukrainian has deceived many fans and experts, and will be a similar weight to the first fight last September.

The pair hit the scales this afternoon in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with Joshua weighing in at 17st 6lbs, which is four pounds heavier than the orignal contest. Meanwhile Usyk was just half a pound heavier compared to the first fight, registering 15st 11lbs 10z on the scales.

Usyk and Joshua then engaged in an intense face off and despite numerous calls by promoter Eddie Hearn to turn and face the crowd, both men continued to stare each other down.

For Joshua, this is a chance to become a three-time world heavyweight champion and potentially secure a lucrative fight against WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

However, after a dominant points win over the British fighter at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last year, Usyk will be full of confidence and looking to inflict Joshua's third professional defeat before challenging for the undisputed heavyweight title.
