The big fight is almost here and in 17 days we will see Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury collide for a second time, live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.
Continuing with our countdown ahead of the fight, we take a look at Usyk’s alternative career as a squad member for FC Polissya Zhytomyr where he wears the number 17.
A huge football fan, Usyk’s sporting career may have turned out differently if boxing did not find its way into his life as a youngster.

In modern times, boxing has provided Ukraine with several instances of sporting glory thanks to the likes of Usyk, Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, and Vasiliy Lomachenko, but their footballing figures have also enjoyed winning accolades on the big stage.
Andriy Shevchenko and Serhiy Rebrov were a deadly partnership for Dynamo Kyiv before both men went onto represent some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including AC Milan, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Although Usyk did not reach those heights, he did feature in a fixture back in 2022 when he came on as a second half substitute for FC Polissya Zhytomyr in a pre-season friendly.
Usyk had won the heavyweight title just a few months earlier and with a second bout against Anthony Joshua looming, he turned out for the Ukrainian Premier League team.
Seconds after coming on in the 76th minute, Usyk almost scored, but he could not make a connection with just the goal to aim for.
Usyk’s team held on to secure a 2-1 win against NK Veres Rivne, ensuring his football record is just as prefect as his boxing one.

Since the sole appearance, Usyk signed a contract with the club in 2023, but he has not yet featured since making his bow nearly three years ago.
The current world champion, who faces Fury on December 21 has stated in previous interviews that he wants to play more football when his boxing run is over.
