Oscar De La Hoya has high hopes for one of his fighters.

Oscar De La Hoya believes Jaime Munguia will make a huge statement when he steps up to 168lbs to face John Ryder next month.

After enjoying success in two weight classes, Munguia will now go for glory in a third and he’ll face a stern test when he goes in with Ryder, who survived 12 hard rounds against Canelo Alvarez earlier this year.

For this fight, Munguia will have a new face in his corner as he teams up with Freddie Roach following a successful spell with Erik Morales.

A win for Munguia against Ryder will immediately make him a top fighter at super-middleweight and De La Hoya, Munguia’s promoter, is backing his man.

“He has the power, talent, work ethic, vision, but more importantly, now, he has the corner in Freddie Roach, who will take him to the next level,” said De La Hoya when speaking to Boxing Scene at a press conference to announce the fight.

“Jaime Munguia, the future is today. Believe me when I say this, Jaime Munguia will challenge everybody. The 168-pound division is on notice.”
