Oscar De La Hoya can’t hide his excitement ahead of Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia as two of the world’s best super-lightweights get ready to go at it.
Last week, it was reported that the pair will clash on April 20 as Haney makes the first defence of the WBC title he won last December against Regis Prograis.
Last April, Garcia suffered the first loss of his pro career as he was stopped by Gervonta Davis, but he can get his career back on track with victory over the unbeaten Haney.
The fight has the boxing industry buzzing and De La Hoya, the promoter of Garcia, has heaped praise on the contest.
“I haven’t been this excited for a fight in quite a while, and this fight here has me excited, just the fact that they are in their primes makes this special,” said De La Hoya when speaking to The Ring.
“This is a great start to 2024. This could be the start of a major career for Ryan. And Devin Haney, fighting Prograis, and now fighting Ryan, it brings back great memories of mine from the 1990s and early-2000s when fighters fought each other.
“The best fought the best. Hopefully, we are on to something. Hopefully, we can start a trend here and April 20 will be the beginning.”
