The boxing legend wants to follow the blueprint that he used with Canelo and has big plans for Gilberto Ramirez, who's in action Friday night.

Despite losing the services of Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya feels good about his current crop of fighters at Golden Boy Promotions.

The boxing legend touched on that, while speaking with The Athletic.

"We want to be as busy as we can," De La Hoya said when asked what Golden Boy is looking for in a broadcast partner. "We have a strong stable. We move the needle with our fights here in the U.S. We know how to promote and build the next generation of champions, just as we did with Canelo and the things we’re doing with Ryan (Garcia) and Vergil (Ortiz) and Jaime Munguia and JoJo (Joseph Diaz Jr). All we need is that perfect partner to accommodate all those dates we want for our fighters."

One of the fighters he's especially excited about is Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez, who clashes with Sullivan Barrera at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles on Friday night, live on DAZN. De La Hoya believes a convincing victory over Barrera could position Ramirez to face undefeated WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol and possibly Canelo in the near future.

"He is established at 41-0, and him beating Barrera in spectacular fashion will position 'Zurdo' to fight for a world title, maybe against Bivol," De La Hoya continued telling The Athletic. "Down the road, I could see an all-Mexican clash with Canelo against 'Zurdo.' That would be incredible.

"I’ve seen where Canelo has stated, 'I’m never going to fight another Mexican in my life.' Imagine if Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. said that when they gave him the contract to fight Mario 'Azabache' Martinez for his first world title. An all-Mexican clash would be a classic, so that’s obviously one of our goals: to position 'Zurdo' to fight with Canelo."
