Otto Wallin fears he may have coronavirus, 'lost my smell and taste'DAZN

Otto Wallin has reason to believe that he might have the coronavirus.

The heavyweight boxer, who's best known for opening that notorious gash over Tyson Fury's eye in their September 2019 fight, spoke with TMZ Sports about the symptoms he's having that coincide with some positive COVID-19 cases.

"So, I felt like I had a fever but I didn't. And then, like I was starting to get better, and then all of a sudden I lost my smell and taste," Wallin said about his concerning state.

He then clarified: "I gotta little taste now, but no smell."

Those symptoms relate to some coronavirus sufferers who have said that they've lost those two senses as well — most notably Utah Jazz All-Star Rudy Gobert, who tested positive and said he lost his sense of smell.

Wallin says this ordeal began after his mother recently visited him in New York City. He told TMZ Sports than when she returned home to their native Sweden that she started to feel sick. His mom's boyfriend, who's a diabetic, also started feeling sick and was tested positive for the coronavirus. That could heighten his mom's chances and his chances of being COVID-19 positive as well.

The 29-year-old Wallin says he feels fine, though.

"I felt a little off, but that was about it," he said. "I probably would have gone about my normal life if I didn't know that this was going on. So, I've been quarantining since Saturday, so that's been over a week now."

He added that he consulted a doctor, who advised him against going to a hospital.

"It's better to save the tests for those who really need it," he said, "and take some pressure off the hospitals."

Wallin (20-1-1 no contest, 13 KOs) took Fury, now the WBC heavyweight champion, the distance before losing via unanimous decision at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last September. In the process, he took himself from a virtually-unknown to a serious, capable fighter on the boxing map.
