Tyson Fury’s wife, Paris Fury, has suggested that despite the WBC champion’s claims to be on the cusp of retirement, he could be tempted in a shot at the undisputed crown.
Speaking after his sixth-round uppercut victory over Dillian Whyte on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium, Fury claimed it may well be the last appearance in the ring as a professional boxer, but admitted an exhibition against Francis Ngannou for ‘Mayweather money’ could still be an option.
However Paris Fury sees another fight, once Oleksandr Usyk completes his rematch with Anthony Joshua.
The pair fought back in September at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the Ukrainian pulled off a comprehensive upset defeat to win the IBF, WBA and WBO belts from the Briton, who then activated a rematch clause.
Another fight is pencilled in for July after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia led to an indefinite delay as Usyk returned to defend his homeland, but was later given permission by his government to leave the country in order to fight for the title again.
Once complete, that would tee up the chance to decide who is the undisputed heavyweight champion in the world, leaving Fury to face one of Joshua or Usyk, with Usyk remaining the favourite to hold onto his belts this summer.
“I would like him to come out now. He has nothing more to prove,” she said to BT Sport. "If he had anything left to do, I would say 'Yeah Tyson, you do it'. But he has nothing to prove.
"So unless he really wants to box on, and if he's just doing it for whatever money, fame, he doesn't need that. He's the most famous man on the planet tonight. For Tyson to keep boxing, it just seems for one reason and I know in my heart, I think the only reason that Tyson will come back is for the unification fight."
