Demetrius Andrade has an opportunity to remind fight fans of his qualities when he faces David Benavidez in a huge super-middlweight encounter in November.
Despite being one of boxing’s most talented fighters in recent years, Andrade hasn’t landed the huge fight his talent deserves, and Paulie Malignaggi believes he was one of boxing’s best fighters at his peak.
A former world champion at both super-welterweight and the division above, Andrade found it easy against several opponents.
Often linked to big contests against the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Billy Joe Saunders, and Daniel Jacobs, Andrade was unable to land such a bout, but he can make a big statement if he defeats Benavidez.
“Let me be real clear, Demetrius Andrade would have beat your favourite fighter’s a-- all over the place in his prime, at any point,” said Malignaggi when speaking to Pro Box TV.
“Andrade definitely is one of the tragic stories of boxing. I don’t think he’s gonna beat Benavidez. I think he’s gonna start out very well and possibly get stopped in a fight where he might’ve been ahead.”
