Jermall Charlo and Jaime Munguia was a fight that was close to being made over the last few weeks. However, the deal has fallen apart.
With both PBC and Golden Boy blaming each other, Oscar De La Hoya used The DAZN Boxing Show to shed some light on the WBC middleweight title fight negotiations.
"Jaime Munguia vs. Charlo, I’d love to make that fight tomorrow," De La Hoya stated.
"You have PBC. You have Stephen Espinoza, who are talking out of their a—s saying that we turned it down.
"We didn’t turn it down. The way they turned it down themselves was that they didn’t want to include DAZN, who built Jaime Munguia.
"How would it be fair to exclude him from that event?
"This fight would have been a pay-per-view on Showtime, and if we have more platforms like DAZN who are promoting the fight, fans are going to be able to have more access to buy the fight on DAZN. It’s a win-win for everybody."
While there are no signs of the fight happening anytime soon, De La Hoya is hopeful Charlo vs. Munguia can be confirmed in the near future.
"If they are willing to do the split, I’m all for it.
"I’m a fan first. This fight would be amazing, and Charlo would get the big piece of the pie. I have no problem with that. That was negotiated. It was just a matter of DAZN participating in this big pay-per-view event, and I was not going to let my partners not participate."
