A big fight takes place in May.

Naoya Inoue has proven himself to be one of boxing’s biggest hitters and he can emulate another massive puncher by fighting in the Tokyo Dome in his native Japan.

30 years after Mike Tyson’s sensational loss to James Douglas, Inoue will box in the same venue as that historic battle when he goes in with Mexico's Luis Nery (live on May 6 on ESPN+ in the US).

In 1990, Tyson was considered boxing’s most menacing fighter as he ruled the heavyweight division with speed, power, and ferocity.

Today, Inoue is that man but down at super-bantamweight as he’s reached the elite level of the sport in a dominant manner by stopping a number of quality opponents.

Can Inoue fare better than Tyson did in Tokyo on May 6? If so, he’ll take his popularity to a completely new platform as he’ll be a genuine stadium attraction in his homeland.

Tyson fell short in Japan against Douglas and the result changed the course of the heavyweight division.

A loss for Inoue against Nery would be equally shocking.
