Promoter predicts Chris Eubank Jr. will activate rematch clause and reveals likely date for Anfield fightDAZN

Promoter Ben Shalom believes that Chris Eubank Jr. will activate his rematch clause against Liam Smith.

Smith comfortably stopped a shocked Eubank last month in Manchester, and after the match-up both fighters entertained the possibility of running it back.

However, Smith now considers that he has more high profile options, while the one-sided nature of the defeat led to suggestions that Eubank may not be keen on another go at Smith, and could even decide to walk away from the sport at 33.

Eubank’s team have also mooted the possibility of an alleged elbow making the difference ahead of the finishing flurry, something that Smith has dismissed, and that could lead Eubank to setting up a second fight.

"We're hearing all indications that they are going to trigger," Shalom told Sky Sports.

"We know Chris really wants to fight again. His pride is hurt, he definitely wants a rematch from what I hear and ultimately Liam wants the biggest names and the big nights.

"He wants Golovkin. It's in Eubank's hands and we can't really look past that until the time has elapsed and we expect him to want to rematch.

"I can't see a better option for Eubank Jr right now."

A decision should be made in the coming weeks, Shalom added.

"We'll expect it formally in writing from Wasserman," he continued

"If we can make sure the event takes place near enough to the last game of the season which I think is on the weekend of [May] 21, then there is a possibility.

"If we were able to get Anfield it would be the end of May."
