Promoter Ben Shalom has revealed a new window for when the rematch between Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr could take place.
The two British rivals first met in January and it was Smith who came out on top with a fourth round stoppage.
Shortly after that first meeting, Eubank Jr activated his rematch clause and the second fight was scheduled for July 1 at the AO Arena in Manchester.
However, Smith was forced to pull out of the bout due to injury, and while Shalom expected the postponement to be only a couple of weeks, he is still awaiting confirmation about when 'Beefy' will be fit to fight.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Shalom admitted that he cannnot keep Eubank Jr waiting around and is hopeful to schedule the Smith rematch by September at the very latest.
"It's a fight that was scheduled and has had to be rescheduled because of Liam Smith's injury," Shalom said.
"It's frustrating for him as much as anyone, but we can't keep Chris Eubank Jr waiting forever.
"I did meet Kalle Sauerland (Eubank Jr's promoter) last week. We expect a date to be finalised at the end of August, early September."
