Regis Prograis seemed to suggest he will retire from boxing following his loss against Jack Catterall, admitting that he has "had my time in the sun" after defeat on Saturday.
The American was downed by the home favourite at Manchester's Co-op Live by unanimous decision after an entertaining contest that saw both stars hit the canvas.
Prograis was looking to return to winning ways after a loss to Devin Haney in his last outing, but was floored twice in the ninth by Catterall in a chaotic encounter.
Speaking afterwards, the 35-year-old veteran was fast to pay tribute to his opponent, while hinting that it may be time for him to leave his gloves in the middle of the ring.
"Jack was just better, that's all," Prograis said. "Jack was the better man, I'm not going to lie. He deserves a world title fight. He definitely deserves a world title next. Good luck.
"[He's] really good. I've fought the best and [he was] the best out of all of them. I've had my time in the sun. Now it's time for the young ones, [to] let the young guys take over."
Prograis' admission seems to spell the end of a glittering career that saw him deliver as one of the most exciting light-welterweights in the division's modern history.
Having turned professional in 2012, he went unbeaten across the first seven years of his career before a loss to Josh Taylor in 2019 checked his stride.
Since then, the star has rebuilt his standing across the division and could well have challenged for world honours again had he been able to get the better of Catterall.
